New theatre to open on March 18 with classic ballet
It's not every day that the Russian State Ballet pirouettes into town for the opening of a brand new theatre, so concertgoers are killing two birds with one... forget that pun. Yes, at long last it's opening night at the Daniel Liebeskind-designed shed, and a complement of Bolshoi stars and 70 dancers will perform Tchaikovsky's classic ballet. The initial run of shows, pegged for an 18:30 start, sold out quickly, resulting in an additional 12:30 matinee on March 21 and some well-deserved gushing from Impresario Simon Walton. 'We are delighted at the overwhelming response to these performances. We have one of the best touring ballet companies out there, a full symphony orchestra, the world's greatest classical ballet and all staged in a state-of the art, purpose-built, luxurious new theatre. This should be one of Dublin's most memorable occasions!' he said. Tickets are available from €30.
