Superbowl 2010
Where to watch America's biggest sporting event in Dublin
Rugby for wimps in armour? Not in our book! American football is an exhilerating blend of strategy, athleticism and ultra-violence, three things we at 2night enjoy with a passion, and the sport's annual jamboree is taking place this Sunday. Superbowl XVIV will feature the Indianapolis Colts as marginal favourites against the New Orleans Saints and, with two talented teams (particularly on the offensive side of the bowl) this is as good an introduction to the game as you'll find. BBC coverage kicks off at 23:00, and the match will likely go on until after 03:00, meaning that venues looking to screen the Superbowl in its entirety will need a special license. Fortunately for you, we've compiled a list of the places in Dublin to watch the game in style. We'll be adding to this list as confirmations come in during the week, so be sure to check back before kick-off!
If you really want to get into the spirit of things, you can attend the superbowl party of the Dublin Rebels (Ireland's premier American football team) at Dandelion. The club boasts a massive main screen and plasma TVs all over the place, so you needn't miss a minute of the action. The party also promises lots of Americana, from cheerleaders to a limited supply of free beer, with festivities kicking off at 20:00. Last year, it was the party of choice for the Pussycat Dolls, and we don't blame them. They're expecting a ton of people so, to be sure of entry, email andrew@dublinrebels.com for an official invitation.
Of course, Captain America's aren't going to be outdone and are holding a Superbowl party of their own on Grafton Street. Entry is €5, though you'll save that on drinks: selected beers and cocktails are a meer €3. Tables are very limited so, if you want to book, call 0861676411 as soon as possible.
On the north side, your best option is The Woolshed on Parnell street. Aside from free entry, the bar assures us that food will be served until late. The bar has a tendency to get packed early on Superbowl night, so start the celebration in the afternoon if you want to be sure of a seat.
You'll also be able to catch the action at Dtwo, which is hosting a superbowl party with bottles of bud and hot dogs for €5, two 36 ft square megascreens and nine plasma screens throughout the venue - including the beer garden! Call 014764694 to book a table.
