THE STORY OF MOTOWN

The legendary Detroit R’N’B label nurtured major artists including the Supremes, The Temptations, The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye – little wonder then, that’s it’s celebrated in a show like this. The Story of Motown promises to take us on musical journey, from humble beginnings in downtown Detroit to the magical heights of its global success, with plenty of hits along the way. A female vocal trio and a male vocal quartet are backed up by the eight piece Motown Big Band. Tickets cost €25.

The sometime Michelle Johnston has an interesting back-story: after running away from her mother, she went to live with her father, who introduced her to country bluesmen Big Bill Broonzy and Leadbelly, as well as contemporary songwriters Guy Clark and Randy Newman. Folk underground glory beckoned, and she’s made 12 well-received albums (including one triple effort) since 1986’s Texas Campfire Tapes. Tickets cost €26.
